End of 2006 update:

Buy the Edun 'One' T-Shirt here. Ten dollars from each shirt goes to Lesotho more or less, article here.

Also a brief search for news on Lesotho reveals this article on Texys Morris and her PC Lesotho adventures.

And finally more Lesotho election goodness. The IEC (Independent Electoral Commission) does their best to make things as shady as possible in the weeks leading up to the elections of doom. Public Eye article here.
Previously I noted that it was over when Bhudaza threw his support towards the ABC, which is still true, but in case that was not enough for you now Hugh Masekela has as well. Full story here.

The Pope on Lesotho...

He said the church will continue to "do all it can to bring relief to those affected by this cruel disease, and also to their families."
"At the same time, it is vitally important to communicate the message that fidelity within marriage and abstinence outside it are the best ways to avoid infection and to halt the spread of the virus," he said.

He also continued on to say something about how he loves to contradict himself... Full story here.

Lesotho Election Update: Libya Ambassador kicked out.

Apparently Lesotho has kicked out the ambassador from Libya, perhaps for his relations with Tom Thabane of the All Basotho Convention Party, here. I wonder if the crazy Libyan man with the fifteen daughters is still there...

If you follow the link to the ABC party website you will be greeted by gems like this one:

He then became Communications Minister, where he was the Government Spokesperson, a role he has played prominently since the 1998 political crisis, when South Africa invaded Lesotho to quell political unrest.

Which is interesting only because they are actualy calling them like they see them. Invaded. oNe has to wonder what is going to happen during these elections. Will there be SADC troops surrounding the dams? Me thinks so. Here is a condemnation of the 1998 actions.

Nine South African soldiers were killed while suppressing the September 1998 army mutiny. More than 50 LDF soldiers and 40 civilians allied with the opposition died in fighting with SADC troops. A total of 52 LDF personnel have been arrested and court-martialed for mutiny and high treason in connection with these events.
This from a US State Department briefing highlights why resentment might still be lingering over 1998.

Update: Bhudaza has thrown his support to ABC. It's over folks. :)

China - Africa Relations (Raw Deal)

Economic watchers say the partnership would sink countries deeper into debt and make them suppliers of raw materials to Chinese companies.

Hmm really? In Africa? Luckily for Lesotho it is still impractical for China to haul water from Lesotho to China... Full story here.

Latest from the Public Eye

The Public Eye has been updated on the web side of things, stemming I am sure from the recent acquisition by the NAB. Read the latest PE offering into the Ellen murder (hint: no new developments in the case) here.
