Economic Disparity

This article comes from Salon.com, so if you want to read it you'll have to watch the daily free pass advertisement. Which, I have to say, seems to work out pretty well.

Anyway the article is about Buppies in South Africa and the economic disparity that has only worsened since the end of apartheid. Good read, seems to deal fairly with both sides of the issue.

"I think we'll see very much of the same in the next 10 years and the gap will continue to widen. The high level of crime, infectious diseases and unemployment will augment this poverty, and I'm afraid that unless there's a dramatic change in policy, we'll see the same in the next 10 years." - economist Sampie Terreblanche

Intro About

In response to the first comment on the previous entry: I am not in Lesotho right now. I am scheduled to leave the US on June 7-10th. I will be going to Lesotho as a volunteer in the Peace Corps.
So I suppose that as of right now the title of this blog is a bit misleading. right now I am just trying to get everything up and running. Legally, structurally, and aesthetically. Hopefully a full "about" page will be completed in the next few days.

Matters Legal

Well I have found a lot more sites exist as opposed to the one case I found of problems. Perhaps it was just an isolated case of a trainee approaching things incorrectly.

I think that a lot of the issues that this kid had dealt with the not-for-profit angle. Hopefully the disclaimer that I have cobbled together from various sites will take care of any outstanding issues. I feel that the Creative Commons License encompasses all points that i feel are necessary. Perhaps there is a different license that would be better, let me know.

Hmm

Well apparently there is some contention about PC volunteers having blogs and the content. Issues with privacy and the spirit of the peace corps, this may be the shortest lived blog ever. We shall see.

Lestho Basis

Well I suppose I should put an initial entry towards what will eventually, oh 40ish days, be the focus of this blog. The biggest thing will of course be internet access, which will be up in the air until final placement in Lesotho. Who knows? Not me... I'm hoping for weekly access, not really hoping for more. This guy is ready for a media/technology break.

Getting my news via word-of-mouth and shortwave radio should be really interesting and very welcomed. Perhaps it only sounds nice because it hasn't actually happened yet, but I doubt it.

Minor Updates

Once again, a dumb update in the hopes that this will put enough stuff on the page to get rid of my tables problems...

Hence these spaces...
Minor updates to the html in the gallery program, links to this blog out of the gallery, email links, and home, as in pictures home, links, as gallery didn't seem to do it out of the box. Oh well, quality stuff for freeware.

MP3.com Returns

Via /., Mp3.com has returned as a part of Cnet's network of content. The MP3.com site will redirect you to here. Slashdot talks about how few artists are signed up, but given the past number, I think that hasty or not, MP#.com's return will eventually flourish. Though I will say that I think much of this will depend on how little crossover content comes from Cnet...

Gallery Install

Completed installation of Gallery.
This is a dynamic photo gallery building program, that should work out pretty well, provided I will have internet access... This program also allows for multiple user accounts, polling, commenting, and gallery to gallery specific layouts.

First Post

First post of my new blog. Installation of MovableType completed. Thanks to Dave for helping me make sure I setup my MySQL database correctly. One's status as a nerd quickly can diminish...

Edited to make this post longer, so that the css will do what I want. The intial lack of posts/content has caused some layout issues.
